Movies and television shows are where you may have first heard AM's music. With an unprecedented 46 song placements to date including HBO's “Big Love”, ABC's “Men In Trees”, and MTV's “The Hills” AM had every song placed from his debut album "Troubled Times". Released on Defend Music in 2006 "Troubled Times" was voted one of iTunes Top 20 "Best Indie Albums" and was a personal favorite of Los Angeles tastemaker and KCRW DJ Nic Harcourt.

In 2007 the Tulsa born, New Orleans raised and current Silverlake resident released his sophomore album "Soul Variations" to more critical acclaim.  Fusing melodic, airy pop and folk-rock "Soul Variations" drew on everything fro Katrina's aftermath to the trials and tribulations of all relationships, whether personal or political. From the spacious, analog nature of the production to the songs themselves "Soul Variations" has been said to feel right at home alongside John Lennon's "Double Fantasy" and Wilco's "Sky Blue Sky".

Voted “Best Singer/Songwriter of the Year" at the LA Weekly Music Awards AM recently finished up a 45 city US tour in support of "Soul Variations and will continue to promote the release in 2008 both in the US and Europe with a showcase at SXSW, select dates on the Hotel Cafe Tour, and UK/Germany dates. AM also recently scored his first film "Man Maid" along with composer Tom Hiel (Swimming with Sharks, The Practice) and has just written and produced a new duets project entitled "Side by Side - Duets EP Vol. 1" which was mixed by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields).  Impossible to Google-- find out more on AM at www.myspace.com/amsounds .

In his own words AM describes his sophomore album “Soul Variations”: “’Soul Variations' has more of a political edge. But like many of my songs I don't think it has to be restricted to that. I try to write songs that can be applied to different situations so the listener can be free to interpret the songs and not be restricted by what I "intended." Many of the songs off the album could be about politics, but could also be about personal relationships. I've never really felt the two are that different. Business, politics and personal relationships all deal with the same fundamental qualities: love, passion, power and sometimes evil. I also feel this record has a much more communal vibe and more of a live feel. There are very little overdubs and the record has a lot of space.


I did the whole thing on 2-inch tape so the analog nature of the recording gives it a much deeper and richer feel than my first record (Troubled Times). Musically I feel it has a lot more groove to it. I've been listening to a lot of jazz, R&B and Brazilian music over the last couple of years. I also produced this album myself so that was a great experience.” When Gary Jules brought his PA to a little coffee shop in Hollywood... the scene at the Hotel Cafe began. AM is part of the Hotel Cafe contingency of singer/songwriters that first began playing at the Hotel Cafe... fast forward a few years to now....
