Belligerence Bio - By Jake McGuire (to be read like the dude from VH1's Behind the Music)
Belligerence is a five piece death metal band stationed in Brunswick, New York. The basis of which was formed in the halls of the local high school with guitarist Butt, drummer Bonesteel, and former Bassist-turned-second guitarist Andrew. The three were musically like-minded and played together in a number of incarnations such as Rebellious Sphincter, Inhibitor and Aftermath, with a wealth of other musicians. The final product in 2005 became Belligerence once Andrew's younger brother, Jon, signed on as Bassist, moving Andrew to second guitar. Add, original singer, Bryan Rassmussen and it was decimating.
They found time between gigs to release a 3 song demo taking the underground by storm and searing late night independent radio. Belligerence was showing upstate New York their own brand of devastating metal and devouring all naysayers who stood in their way. Having been influenced by such metal titans as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and the chaotic metal scene of upstate New York, Belligerence has created a brutal bitch with this release. This all out aural assault they have created is nothing compared to the live show. If Hell were to have a soundtrack and house band, Belligerence would be it.
When writing songs, the band has gone to great pains to craft each song different than the previous. The band proudly wears their influences on their sleeve, and they create each song with a different influence. The idea is to be "brutally diverse," says the band. Dubbing their sound as "Drunk-Core," it is easy to tell what the band means upon one listen to the demo.
The band is driven with pounding drums, keeping the mayhem in time. Bonesteel, having no formal training in the art of skin pounding, showed at an early age his ability to hit things hard and fast while not losing rhythm. Bonesteel truly is a master blaster and able to adapt to the diverse rhythmic nature of Belligerence.
If Burton, Lemmy, and Geezer are bass legends then Jon is the legend killer. He is a man of few words; he prefers his chops to speak for him. If its rhythm and groove you're looking for, he has it. The grooves are as pummeling as a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick; he shakes the very foundation of Belligerence.
With duel guitar fury of Butt and Daimyen, both with a PhDs in shredding, the partners in unholy guitar chaos can't be stopped. This guitar wielding machine cranks it up to 11 every time they plug in. Their riffs are bone crushing and cause necks to be snapped.
Soon, however, the band was to be devastated with the start of an unfortunate trend of vocallessness. The sudden resignation of Bryan left the band without a voice for some time. Add to that, the loss of second guitar Andrew and things looked grim for Belligerence. While many singers have come and gone, only one man has stayed on full time to fill the second guitar role. Daimyen was brought in by his friend who was singing at the time, and remained when the singer departed, leaving the line-up to four. To this day, the search goes on to find a suitable front man for this soon to be metal giant.
