Long Version:
Well i played trumpet for about 8 years in school, but that never really did it for me. I started playing music with some friends in 8th grade. I began on bass, then picked up guitar as well. In high school, 2 friends and i formed Out 2 Dry. It was my first "real" band that actually played shows and people really seemed to like. We recorded an EP titled, "Backwards Talking Am I...."
Then a year or so later, that band dissolved and McFly was formed. That band did really well for itself. We sold a lot of CDs/stickers, etc., and we came in 2nd place out of 50 bands at a Battle of the Bands at the Palladium in Worcester, MA. Our only recording was the 2001 EP, "Who You Gonna Call?!?!."
Due to a notice from the other band McFly that we were previously unaware of, we changed our name to The Scenic Route. That band took McFly's energy, but lost a lot of the "fun" aspect of the music, and people always tell us now, that they liked McFly better, but oh well. We recorded an LP in 2002 called, "No Guts, No Reward for Having Guts," as well as a Self-Titled EP in 2003. The Scenic Route ended in early 2004, due to our drummer being recruited by Big D & the Kid's Table.
After that, i tried different things here and there ranging from indie/punk to hardcore/metal. In late 2004, i started playing/recording songs with a friend as Applaud or Die. We did a weird kind of folk/indie rock/hip-hop thing and played some open mic nights and always got a good response. On the side, i wrote/recorded some songs on my own, labeling myself as Dead in Four. Eventually Applaud or Die morphed into a full band, and we came up with some really interesting songs, but that eventually died out in 2007, due to the unavailability of a few members.
During that time though, beginning in early 2006, i had been picked up by the hardcore/punk rock band Attitude, who were based out of Syracuse, NY and signed to 1917 Records in Los Angeles. They previously recorded the vinyl EP, "Piss and Vinegar," as well as the 2006 full length, "We All Go Down Together." I did 3 months of US touring with them that summer, as well as another month in summer '07, and numerous shows in between. The traveling back and forth to Syracuse was a bit draining, but i do what i gotta do. We we fortunate enough to play the "Sound and Fury Festival" in Los Angeles in both 2006 and 2007. We also played the "This is Hardcore Fest" in Philadelphia in 2006. I recorded with them on the 2007 vinyl EP, "Turn Into Stone." I last played with them in Dec '07, but now the fate of that band is uncertain and i see myself as more of a fill-in player at this point.
In Nov '07 i had decided to do something ambitious. I took 12 of the 36 songs i had recorded over the years as Dead in Four, and had 3 of my most trusted friends pick their favorite 8, since i wanted to narrow the track list down, but was having trouble doing it myself. So i called up a studio guy that i had done some recording with back in 2002 with The Scenic Route, and began recording what is now my EP, "All the Gold in Your Fort Knox". A good friend of mine did the artwork for it, which i am very greatful for.
So that brings us to the present. I am writing music for a film Called "King For a Day", that i also had a role in amongst the ensemble cast. I had previously recorded music with two other people for the film, "Out 2 Dry," which i also acted in. Aside from writing my own music, i've done work with a few friends here and there under the name, Finco Mase. It's mostly fun and/or funny tunes about who knows what. We try and do as many styles as possible, so you never know what we're going to come up with next. We also do short films and skits together, which we've been doing for several years. We plan on putting up a website in the near future, showcasing our films, music, and artwork. Exciting things are happening.
