I was talking to a friend today, and it ended up with me taking (bad) digital images of a few old pictures of myself as a kiddo. The one thing I noticed in going through the images was that I'm always smiling, I'm usually holding something: a cat, a dog, a tray of fish my parents caught, a branch on a tree, my favorite brown horse (the one that my Jane West doll rode), a present from under the Christmas Tree, or just the attention of everyone around me LOL

Anyway, hope you enjoy them.

Me as a nine month old. My mom would push me about 3/4 of a mile in this stroller up to the Metzger store and come home with the basket full of baby food.

I'm about three years old here, and Tiger is a kitten. He had just come home to us and in that perfect position (ie; ass in the air) I noticed something on his fur...mom stopped me before I snacked on it ;-)

I am eight here I think, and Domino was a kitten from a litter of my babysitters cat. I named him Domino because his tummy was all white with one black spot.

Anyone else wanna play this was me then?

Kraut 'Tini??

Yep, it's that time of year again. Time for Kraut in Scappoose. Steinfeld's Pickle Factory was located in Scappoose, Oregon for years, and in the fall of every year the streets of Scappoose were filled with the acrid odor of cooking kraut...farm trucks rolled into town with their loads of cabbage heads, picked from Pastorini farms on Sauvie Island.

After many years of making kraut and the demise of the Scappoose POW WOW, the city came up with a new idea, a festival to celebrate all things Sauerkraut. So tomorrow Heritage Park in Scappoose with be filled with people doing just that. Eating kraut ice cream, kraut chocolate cake, bowling with cabbage heads etc. There's even a fashion show. Which helps me segue into the point of this blog:

On page 7 of the South County Spotlight is the headline, Making sauerkraut "sexy". HUH! I cannot be the only one that quickly scanned the page to try and figure out just what the word sexy has to do with sauerkraut

Well, here it is, the Fremont company, a midwestern producer of sauerkraut has launched a campaign to make kraut sexy! And apparently it all starts with the Kraut 'Tini or K'Tini . Here is the recipe for Frank's Kraut 'Tini:

*Stuff one large green olive with Frank's Bavarian style or Regular Sauerkraut.

*Marinate olive in fresh vermouth overnight.

*Shake two ounces of premium gin or vodka in an ice filled shaker.

*Pour chilled gin or vodka into a martini glass; add two marinated Frank's stuffed olives.

You've just made you first K'Tini !! Cheers.

At least that's what I've been hearing most of my life. I always figured maybe I never
won big at life or love because I wasn't willing to risk enough. I've looked around and seen other people just go for it and apparently win. I wonder if maybe it was more a sure thing for them when they just jumped in with both feet? Maybe it's because they are younger and have alot of life in front of them, and so if they make a mistake it's certainly painful but doesn't seem so fatal.  When you're 22, as opposed to say, 42, it doesn't seem like your last chance...

What do you do when you have so much hope? When you go into something so pure, so whole-heartedly? When you dig deep and trust even though you thought you never would again?   What do you do when you show someone the deepest, most intimate parts of yourself, those places, needs, and passions that you've kept only for yourself until that time? What do you do when you lay yourself so bare and it's still not enough....

It's not that I wouldn't wait. But wait for what? To watch another birthday approach and still not have any answers? I have no hate or anger, only saddness and disappointment. Disappointment mostly at the loss of communication, the lack of care for my needs. Sometimes you have to do the hard stuff, you have to find the time, you just have to, especially if the person means anything to you. The really sad part is that this is truly the first time I've ever had such an open and honest relationship, one I felt safe to express myself inside of...until now, when that door of honesty and communication has just been slammed in my face.

I would love him, I would wait. We fit, he's my heart and he knows my soul. But he's not even asking me too...I need for him to say things to me and he won't. And that's my answer isn't it? Isn't it?? He's a good guy really, for the most part...no promises you can't keep...but if you know the answer is NO, shouldn't you just say so? Shouldn't you let the person go?? Even if you love them as they love you...isn't it better to let them go, than shut them out and leave them adrift wondering wondering wondering..........

So I tried, I really did. I just went for it.......and I feel as if I've fallen flat on my face. I thought there was someone there to catch me, but it turns out he was just a shadow.  A sweet, kind, funny, brilliant, loving, shadow of a man who will never be mine. I have immense respect for him, I support him in everything he's trying to do and achieve in his life at this momment. I am proud of him. I think he can do anything he wants to.

I am sorry if I have too many difficult things going on in my life right now to handle this all better.   He's meant the world to me. HE MEANS THE WORLD TO ME. I'm not a kid, and I know that you just don't meet someone like this to many times in your life. I feel like he was made for me. But the uncertainty is too hard for me...the blind trust and faith I'm supposed to continue to have...

So I went for it, but in the end, I realize what I guess I've always known...I work best with a plan.   Any plan........

I just hope that someday I can get rid of this ache in my heart. The one that wakes me in the night and makes it hard to breathe. I love you.

She's bringing the hubby and a granddaughter all the way from Tacoma to Scappoose via Portland...or at least that's the plan we women cooked up Hehe...poor Riki what did he get him self into? I will keep you all posted on how it goes and maybe there will be a few images to share too. Must retain veto power .......

Which means that none of you are being watched either. The letter was only meant to give me the impression that I was. Sooo second grade. Sucks that I fell for it. Feeling a bit threatened...

I came to trig because I was curious, and well honestly, because of the 69 Eyes and Mama Trash...you had to be here so you could know all the cool stuff

I stayed because I noticed alot of other great music, and talented people. Maybe you've noticed I sort of like to take images and look at other people's too...and even though I have a crap camera I can't stop doing it

Amazingly, I've made some friends, some of whom I really hope to meet some day.

Music, photography and friends....trig is a great place. But my trig profile is causing me to feel threatened by someone who feels threatened by trig.

For those of you who don't know, I have been separated for a year. I have been on trig less time than that, but still I am being accused of 'talking to guys' . So, if you are a guy, I apologize for talking to you, I never meant for it to happen.

I'm also being accused of primping for you!  And I sincerely apologize for not being a heck of alot better at it!! You all deserve so much better than what I have been providing!!

I also apologize if you feel that I have 'made myself attractive and available for dating' you Since most of my male friends are happily married, this particularly upsets me...As a home wrecker I am seriously lame...I mean I haven't managed to wreck a single home in an entire year!!! I hope they don't take my home-wreckers card away

And seriously guys...I never meant to find true friendship here, so if you are one of my friends I sincerely apologize for burdening you with my friendship.

I am setting my profile to private tomorrow. I just can't take being spied on.   I'm just me. Nothing more and nothing less. Lava is hot. Possibly the hottest thing in the universe, excepting the sun. Just a drop of that flaming liquid could melt through your hand and leave the most hideous impression. Lava can also burn all the trees, and ruin all the crops, and destroy all the houses, and incinerate all the people. Totally unattractive, really. I think volcanoes are meanies! Scientists are not sure what makes a volcano erupt-which reminds me of my sister! Because I am not sure what makes Erin erupt! That is all I want to write right now, but mom has arrested me, and locked me up in the prison of boredom. I have served 20 minutes and I already want out of this stink pit!

I was thinking back the other day, trying to remember all the shows I've been to. I had a good friend who worked for Tower Records and she got alot of tickets, and I was her 'date' to alot of these shows. Some I did happen to pay for......

Some of you may have seen the pics of me with 'red' hair...that's 'Hot Mahogany'. Yeah for hot mahogany!!

So, you may wonder why I would go completely out of my comfort zone <snicker> and try 'Vibrant Auburn'?!?! Maybe it was the descriptive 'Vibrant' !! That one little lying sack of doggie doodoo word that sucked me in with it's promises of excitement and pizazz....<pppssszzzz>!! Humpf I want my $1.99 back now

It's brown, and NOT my brown, and absolutely NOTHING about it is VIBRANT!! You may well say that that was the point after all, a bit of a change for the auld mare. <sigh> All I can say is thank goodness it's not a permanent dye.

BTW Oldest daughter thinks it's beautiful and the younger one basically said, "Nice try".

Christmas Drama

So, on the day you have to make a Christmas party for some family, with a cake still left to bake, pictures to pick up at the store, some gifts to wrap, and bathroom to clean, the last thing you want when you wake up is a computer with an attitude

Apparently a file was missing or corrupted and it instructed me to insert my disk and press 'r' at the first screen to try and repair it. Normally I'd lift my middle finger and suggest to my computer that we insert that instead! You know, turn it off and let it think over what it's just said to me, in the hopes that it will change it's mind Hey, sometimes it works! But no, I'm so scattered that I just did what it said The next thing I know, I'm rebooting everything...and no, I don't want any commentary from the peanut gallery (ie; anyone reading this!) So I have to reload earthlink, reload flash, update IE, blah, blah, blah...Grrr. It's a good thing I'm such a genius and can actually do this without someone holding my hand;-)

Next on the list was discovering that my shower no longer IS ONE! Now I like baths, in fact I was having one, but I wanted to rinse off in the shower!! BUT IT DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT'S JOB!! Seriously...what else could happen.....

Well, I'll tell you, the kids are now sick...grumble.....

It's supposed to snow tomorrow, and I have to drive 150 miles to visit family, luckily it's Oregon and it probably will only be a few flakes.

In the end the party was a huge success, and I AM looking forward to seeing the family this weekend...Also hoping to sneak off to the bookstore ALONE on Sunday!!

Afternoon Tea...

...at the Heathman Restaurant and Bar.

This is my second year 'taking' Afternoon Tea at the Heathman in Portland during the Holiday Season.  The Chef is Philippe Boulot and his menu represents a twist on the English tradition, emphasizing local ingredients and drawing inspiration from all over the world (paraphrased).

They serve amazing loose leaf tea, the only time during the year I have it. You can choose from a Black Tea such as Darjeeling, or a Green Tea such as Gunpowder, an Herbal like Mint Me'lange or a Scented Tea such as Vanilla (my friend's choice) or Orange Spice (my choice)!

We were seated in a corner of the Tea Court facing all of the decorations and near the fireplace It's a lovely old hotel with wonderful atmosphere.

And for $28.50 this is what you get:

Pot of Tea (refilled)

Smoked Salmon Salad Profiteroles (smoked salmon spread in little crusty buns)

Goat Cheese Crostini (a little baguet slice with fresh goat cheese-one of my faves)

Pate' Maison (Pork pate' with roquefort and pistachios-and half a little tiny gerkin that's lethal...)

Classic Cucumber Sandwich

Deviled Egg

Heathman Scone (freshly baked buttermilk scone with mascarpone and jam-you don't need jam-the mascarpone is to die for- a basket of these would be perfect they are awesome!)

Organic Banana Bread (I traded my pal this for her salmon thingy-she doesn't like fish)

Parisian Opera Cake (layers of coffee cream, jaconde, and chocolate ganache-not too sweet)

Haupia (Hawaiian syle coconut cake)

Lemon Bar (Flakey Pastry with Lemon Curd and powdered sugar-our favorite!! Awesome and she doesn't even like lemon that much...me I'd like to roll around in it

Devil's Food Chocolate Tea Cupcake (with cream cheese frosting)

Fresh Marshmallow (read: homemade sugar bomb- would be awesome in cocoa but not so much just to eat...)

Takers vs. Triggers

This is about the second or third time I've pondered doing this. I'm not by nature a bitch, I don't come by it easily and it's usually not very nice when it eventually comes out, so better now than later.

Some of you guys who come along seem to have the attitude that those of us with people profiles are here for you and only you. You want the attention/trigs to flow your way, but you don't give a shit about returning the favor. My time is not worth anything to you, but it's worth something to me. So if you request my friendship then come and trig my profile and I'll do the same. If you want me to trig your gallery or listen to your tunes, then you better take a dad-blasted trip through my gallery first!

I'm not here to be your bitch. I've met some great bands here who know how to behave, and I have some existing friends who are the first to trig any darn thing I blather on about even if they aren't interested because they know I'll return the favor!! I've got one friend who as far as I can tell has NEVER been into my gallery even though I trig everything that appears on both profiles he tends...but I'll forgive him because he talks to me, and listens to me, and that's ALOT harder to handle than looking at my lovely pictures;-)

My point is this, there has to be some symbiosis going on. What use is it for me to listen to your music, trig your songs, comment on your pictures and generally pet your ego, if I get nothing in return. If you just requested my friendship then you aren't my real friend yet, and I don't owe you anything. I'll give it freely if I'm interested (usually I'll request if I am OR I'll take a trip through your gallery and yakk about your great pics!), have the time, am bored, or you make personal contact with me along with the request. I don't care about numbers, but I don't like to feel like I'm here giving freely to people who don't seem to repay the favor, EVER. Rest assured if I do listen or leave a comment it's sincere.

If I remove you as a friend it's because I've visited your profile and decided we have nothing in common. Don't keep requesting my friendship again and again if I remove you. Don't take it personally, we just don't have enough in common. The other reason I might remove you is because you have never once, even after effort on my part, even bothered to trig my profile!! Heck, get your girlfriend to maintain your site if you can't even make that much of an effort.

Risto Jussilainen starts a new chapter in his life.

Thirty-two year old Risto Jussilainen has ended his ski-jumping career. He plans to open a temporary employment agency in his hometown of Jyvaskyla in Central Finland. He'll do this in partnership with another ex-jumper Olli Happonen.

Rise is the smiling Finn, always looking to the camera with a grin unlike some of his compatriots. By all accounts a friendly guy, he was sometimes trained by his uncle Taiste, one-time trainer of Matti Nykanen.

For many years Risto drove from Jyvaskyla to Lahti to train, a commute which must have played quite a toll on him. I've always wondered if he had made the move south, would his jumping have been better? But he preferred his home, and you have to love him for that!!

I'll miss you Risto Best of luck in the future.

In related news Lauri Hakkola has also retired, and is looking forward to becoming a dad. Jussi Hautamaeki and his wife welcomed their daughter Kia last year, and he is hinting about a 'real' job for next year. As far as I know Jussi is still mucking about with his band Kroisos.

Janne Ahonen and Matti Hautamaeki seem to be the ones in the best of shape this year, and the season is not shaping up well so far for the Flying Finns:-(
