DRAWING:ART AND SEX ("The animal")

This drawing shows a lot of the key aspects that I wish to show in some of my paintings.

The main subjects will be contained within a square area of the rectangle canvas, following the "golden mean", which will mean that the background will take up approx. two-thirds of the space. The background is the area where the historical representations of the sexual experience will be shown, as ghosts images.

The black and purple area represents a bed. This has been turned on it's side to remove it from being a realistic representation, as to do this would distract the eye from the main subject? I may use real materials, like leather and silk to give a contrast of texture to the work, and also add the sense of smell to the painting.

As in all my drawings, I started this sketch with ramdom, experimental and accidental marks, allowing my mind to create the image and give the direction for the next lines I make. As I developed the woman's face, I noticed how animalistic the mouth became. This showed me in what direction I wanted to take the drawing: To show the woman as a contained and controlled animal, and her struggle to express her full passion. I have added the chain to demonstrate this further.

The red knickers (or any underwear) will be painted in high gloss paint. This will add contrast by seperating it from the matt finish of the acrylic paint. To add more contrast to the painting, the male and female forms will be paint with thick impasto, while the background will be produced with flat washes. The crude line work will be left/put in place to show the past movements of the coupling.

The drawing only gives an indication as to what the work will look like. When I see the finished painting in my mind, the drawing only shows a fragment of the impact the painting will have. I hope to do the paintings on large canvases: Approx. 4' X 6' (this will depend on money and space contraints). Because of the work involved, in time and materials, the paintings will cost approx. $5,000 each. I know that this will limit the amount of people who may show an interest in purchasing a painting; for this reason, I will produce smaller work, using paint only. I may choose to use real chains and other objects in the works, which will mean the finished painting will need to be contained behind glass. One idea I have, is to frame the work within a original ornate frame (painted in black gloss paint) with studs and spikes added.
