Some people have albums in their gallery. I don't, or you've hidden it so very cleverly that I can't find the feature. Is it restricted to some users, a bug that I don't have albums, or am I blind?

If you edit your images there is a 'move to' option. That's currently how you put things in albums.

We have a few things in the pipeline to make this process a lot better

I think it's simple, just create albums within the gallery.
