trig.com. A community for creative people with images, blogs, music, trends, etc. Yeah, we could say all that. But what we really imagine is a place where people like their music loud, their opinions edgy and their life brave.

about rebellion in a confined world....where doctors, lawyers, businessmen, garbage men, janitors, and just the average everyday joe can go see the band they love and coexist as one either it be in a moshpit, slam-dancing, circle pits, or just holding up the devil's horns and headbanging...man, i love metal!!!

Is it just me or does there seem to be an increasing rise in politically charged lyrics within metal?
...which is a good thing, it annoys me when people say that metal is only screaming and growling about gore and murder, the ignorance in that thought is astounding.
metal lyrics are often deep and profound, too bad people can't get past their preconceived notions of metal...besides the most talented and amazing musicians are metal artists, no other genre comes close to their speed and precision and not to mention unrelenting brutality

yeah, take Slayer's new album....it's very politically charged, but awesome. The way they put it out there is crazy!!! I liked it by the way...it sounded old-school. There drummer for "God Hates Us All" (which was politically charged as well) was crazy fast and made Slayer have a newer edge, different sound, and very familiar at the same time.

yep...I agree Slayer's new stuff is good...a little different, but still good, idk I'm more of a traditionalist and still think Reign in Blood was one of their greatest albums.....
I'm down with political lyrics I'm just hoping that it doesn't get to the point where bands begin using their positions as political platforms to a certain extent....I remeber Himsa's original singer Christian stripped himsa of their thrash metal influences and practically turned the band into a political machine, burning flags on stage, and changing their sound completely, needless to say he was kicked out of the band and replaced with Pettibone (who is a better vocalist anyways)

erm... if you don't like political bands, I understand, but this music is about rebellion. Using the public eye for that end is intrinsic to the music. Now, I'm not saying it should become a protest rally on stage at every show or what have you, but to fault a band for using the soapbox when it's clearly theirs to use seems... i don't know... semi-fascist.
It's like all the people still pissed at the Dixie Chicks. Why shouldn't you criticize the President if he's diametrically opposed to what you are about, and why shouldn't they seek to distance themselves from that mentality? Especially since everyone seems to think Texas is what Hollywood portrays it as.
Would the neocons really be pissed at a conservative star (Mel Gibson or Arnie) taking the opportunity to slam a Democratic Party member in public? Somehow I doubt there would be any outrage on the right if Arnold Schwartzisface dissed Bill Clinton, even if Billy was still in power.
Remember, it's all a distraction anyway.
Anyway, I think it's great that bands like Lamb of God and Unearth are doing more politically charged stuff. At least it's not the unfocused aggro-whining of bands like Korn and POD. I got really tired of the "I'm pissed at absolutely nothing and can only take it out on myself or my family" genre really quickly.

I think you misread/misunderstood my post, I'm down with the political lyrics. The best thing about America is that we are able to critcize our government w/o being shot down.....however give it a couple of years and I'm sure that will change.
I was saying that I just don't like it when bands throw away their original sound when they become political.
And of course, politics belong in music! I love punk and that's what punk is based off of.....political and social rebellion. However, I just want a band to get political without sacrificing their sound and potentially breaking up because the political opinions of one member don't match those of another...hence why I used Himsa as an example.
