well, to be fair, the whole "post industrial" (ie industrial bands starting later than 1978, and NOT signed to Industrial Records) was very much influenced by the metal scene anyway. Which in my opinion is a good thing.
I am basically a filthy metaller anyway, and got into Industrial music through liking Metal and Techno.

hahahaha. No, their just really not my thing to be fair. "Broken" had a couple of alright songs on it, but everything else is just a bit "wishy-washy" I feel. They kind of remind me of a combination of all the worst bits of Skinny Puppy, Depeche mode and Ministry, but not in a good way.
Still, millions disagree with me, so i'm obviously missing out on something!
But i'm quite happy in my world of missing out on what it is people like about NIN :-)

actually, what he did was mix electronic and rock and got something Industrial AT THE TIME. Now it is not industrial. Now he is borderline rock, and i think we all know that if you mix industrial and electronic you get EBM.
Listen, I'm sorry if i sound a little aggressive on this topic, i just hate how everyone credits him as the end all be all of one of the most abstract genres
of all time, when he is barely even a member of anymore, when people who devote their lives to it are passed up because people don't understand the REAL sound of industrial, and say "that's not what industrial sounds like, with teeth, now that's industrial" NITZER EBB BEOTCH! CHEMLAB FUNKER VOGT!, this is what industrial has become, something that stands for something, not YEAR ZERO!

actually funker vogt is also one of the "mainstream" ebm acts - at least in my opinion.
and the discussion should not be "this is industrial, the others not". trent (we all should agree on this) has his very own style, which kinda envolves to something new with every album. this is what happens to every band. anyway, it's always NiN, you'll be able to figure that on every song he ever made, even if there are no vocals. and finally, you like or dislike it.
for me, "the downward spiral" and "fragile" are the best works he ever made, and they are musical milestones. i like the other nin stuff, too - but those are my absolute favs i'm sure i'm listening to in 20 years also..
now we should either do a topic related to NiN or stop discussing on him.. agree?

arguing is senseless anyway, because nobody who loves NiN will begin to hate him and vice versa ;)
anyway, it's sometimes funny how people react when you begin to talk about music being this or that. it's almost like you treat them in any form..
why is it so?
i mean, it's music. ok, surely it is also part of everyones individual lifestyle, but: why does it harm ppl when some act/band/artist means something else for other people? i can live with people around me telling me that Zillertaler Schürzenjäger are the source of every musical trend ever made - as long as i'm not forced to listen to them so what?
