What are the differences between those two genres? Are there any?
Which genre do you prefer?

Entirely depends upon the act, and what you classify as "Electro" or "Industrial".
Really most of the stuff people class as industrial these days is more influenced by the electro movement. So by that standard, i'd have to say industrial.

in musical terms i would categorize "electro" as a mix of techno and typical breakdance music.. remember those times in the late 80's when bands like newcleus had their times? stuff like kraftwerk and anthony rother is electro, too..
so, i guess the decision should be more like "electronic or industrial" since that covers more of the stuff we listen to in common. i'd kinda say "seabound" is electronic, while "xotox" is industrial; and bands like "S.I.T.D" or "Mind.In.A.Box" doing a mix of both worlds - which is what i like the most these days.

Yup, technically Electro IS breakdance/bodypop - stuff like Bambaata. I guess it DOES have a relevance to contemporary "industrial" music, as that was the roots for EBM.
It's just the whole terminology thing isnt it? What one person means by Electro, might not be what another person thinks.

Swedish and american vocabulary is rather different, and I even though I think that I grasp them both quite well, it's a bit confusing...
So to me "industrial" means most kinds of dark electronic music, both with elements of metal (e.g. Rammstein) and more pop (e.g. Depeche Mode). "Electro" is more dancefloor oriented, and not necessarily dark.
But on the other hand, I think that genres and categorizations are quite useless...

"Industrial" was never properly defined in the first place, so you can make it up as you go..................... but Depeche Mode is New Wave
