Aswell as me switching around in my own comp and it sort of crashed though mostly same old junk in it as before.
As for thinkpads, I wouldn't really recommend IBM ThinkPads but mainly depends what they'll be used for.
If you're a hardcore gamer a desktop PC is your best buy which you buy in parts, put together and configure on your own since then you get what you need and can change parts that grow old.
For laptops in general I would recommend MacBooks simply because all the useful multimedia programs work smoothely on Mac and they are more stable than a PC.
They cost more than other laptops but the design on MacBooks is lovely for the eye and their usefulness is good.
But overall, my PC setup looks like this:
Abit IP35 mb with Intel P35 chipset, e-SATA2 etc.
Core 2 Duo still @ 1.9Ghz.
2gig DDR2 ram.
GeForce 8800GTS 312mb GDDR3 PCI-E HDCP certified.
320 SATA HDD and a 250 external USB2 HDD.
Samsung SyncMaster 21" wide 2ms 3000:1 HDCP certified.
Windows Vista Ultimate X64 SP1, 64-bit obviously.

For info about the Deckadance program, http://www.deckadance.com/ is your best source really.
Should run smooth on most computers from what I've seen(only use about 2% of my CPU on this comp, which is a Core 2 Duo ~1,9Ghz).
If you don't want to spend money on it, you could always browse one out of many torrent sites.
