A little knowledge about Sweden never hurt anyone

Abba -- a Swedish pop group founded in 1972 that found major success in the 1970s and early ’80s. Their international breakthrough came at the Eurovision Song Contest of 1974, which they won with the song Waterloo.

Anders Celsius -- an astronomer and the inventor of the centigrade thermometer. (that pretty much the entire world except the US uses)

Ingrid Bergman -- a Swedish actress. She is ranked as the fourth greatest female star of American cinema of all time by the American Film Institute. She was married to the director Roberto Rossellini and is the mother of the famous actress Isabella Rossellini.

Alfred Nobel -- a Swedish chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite. In his last will, he used his enormous fortune to institute the Nobel Prizes.

Ingvar Kamprad -- founder (in 1943) of IKEA, a home-furnishing retailer that sells low-price household products, including furniture, accessories, bathrooms and kitchens, at its stores around the world and online.

Astrid Lindgren -- a children’s book author and screenwriter. Her books include the Pippi Longstocking series. Many have been translated into up to 85 languages and published in more than 100 countries.

Carl Von Linné -- laid the foundations of an entirely new classification of plants, based on their reproductive physiology. Linné's renowned taxonomic (naming) system is still the international standard.

Greta Garbo -- an actress during Hollywood's silent film period and part of its Golden Age. Regarded as one of the greatest and most inscrutable movie stars ever produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the Hollywood studio system, she received a 1954 Honorary Oscar "for her unforgettable screen performances" and in 1999 was ranked as the fifth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.

Saint Birgitta -- also known as Santa Brigida or St. Bridgid of Sweden was a mystic and saint, and founder of the Bridgettine Order. Uniquely among saints of the second millennium, she was also the mother of a saint - Saint Catherine of Vadstena of Sweden.

Hans Blix -- a diplomat and politician. Blix was the head of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission from March 2000 to June 2003, In 2002, the commission began searching Iraq for weapons of mass descruction. He also made an apperence in the movie Team America. hahaha

Niklas Zennström -- founder of KaZaa and Skype.

"A freind of mine just had there baby boy Corbin Brockman on the 15 of Aug 08. The day they were checking out one of the nurses noticed he wasnt breathing right. They moved him from Carlsbad New Mexico hospital, to Lubbock Hospital on Saturday, then on Sunday afternoon they flew him down to Houston. He has Numerous Heart problems and will be undergoing mulitple surgeries, and will be there for at least 1-6 months. I am looking to help raise money to help cover any expenses they need help with ( bills not covered by insurence and travel between Carlsbad and Houston) any help would be greatly appreciated."

The Amazing Road trip

I thought I'd show you guys some of the wonderful things me and Senyo saw on our road trip in the US. My first week we just spent on the sailboat, living and sailing and cuddling.. I also did some puking after Senyo tricked me into drinking the local water haha.. You americans need to stop destroying this earth btw. Anyway! Here's some pictures and maybe some text I don't know.. It's about 7 am here and I should be asleep, or maybe waking up. I thought it was saturday but it turned out to be friday today, I have no idea how this happened. SO confused. Oh and Senyo has all the pictures on his computer so this will be nothing but stolen and probably copyrighted pictures, the real ones will be uploaded in my gallery later.. when I get them. Enjoy!

French Quarter, New Orleans. Wonderful place. I even saw one of those horse thingies! We just went there so Senyo could see what it looked like now cause he was there and helped cleaning up after the hurricane. Yep.

Stuart. I love him to death and it was wonderful to hug him. One of the best men on this planet, maybe even the best one. <3

Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico. Absolutely amazing caves, so big and beautiful and sparkly! It took us 5 hours to walk around there, and we didn't even see everything. If you are anywhere near this place - go there!!

Very Large Array, west of Soccoro, New Mexico. We never planned to go to this place but we were driving through the middle of nowhere and saw these huge antennas. We got a guided tour by a very pretty girl with a unicorn t-shirt and was surrounded by boy scouts, it was very interesting AND we got to see all of the 27 antennas move. It was awesome, they are so big (25 meter/82 feet in diameter)!

Meteor Crater, somewhere close to Flagstaff, Arizona. A 50 000 year old crater that's 1.2 km (0.75 mile) in diameter and absolutely amazing. It's impossible to realize how big it really is until you're standing at the edge. I loved this. We weren't planning on going here either, I just saw a sign that said Meteor Crater and wanted to go there hihi! That tiny white thing on the right is a huge building btw.

Petrified Forest, between Navajo and Holbrook, Arizona. One of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood. Petrified means that it, under millions of years, turned into stone. So you're looking at a fallen forest of stone really. It was also awesome and it was absolutely forbidden to grab a piece of them so we did that. : )

Los Angeles, California. A city so polluted that the monutains surrounding it were impossible to see. Nasty. Don't like it. Went to some very organic restaurant and had a wonderful club sandwich though. Slept at Senyo's brother place, he's a nice guy and his daughter is super charming and cute!

Sequoia National Park, California. We saw the worlds largest know single organism by volume, the tree called General Sherman and the Giant Forest.. It was amazing, and yet again, you can not imagine how huge these trees are until you are standing next to them. Go see them!!! The trees are between 2 300 and 2 700 years old and are around 85 meters (275 feet) tall. General Shermans diameter around the base is about 12 meters (39.5 feet). It's a BIG tree. Woah.

Grand Canyon, Arizona. I'm sure all of you have heard about this place. It was awesome. Everything I saw on this trip was awesome haha! Breathtaking and scary. I'm afraid of heights and we were at the North Rim where you get to climb around in the canyon without any safety stuff at all. I crawled around on my hands and knees while Senyo laughed at me and took pictures : D

Rocky Mountains, Colorado. Wolf Creek Pass is hell on earth. At least if you don't realize that you are going up to about 14 000 feet (about 4 300 meter) really really fast, have a hard time breathing and you're wearing nothing but a short sleeve sweatshirt, shorts and flip flops.. Driving through a cloud at about 60 mph. My arms were numb, I was soaking wet, freezing, could barely move and I was crying my eyes out. It was truly horrible, but at least I can say that I did it! Hah!

Somewhere close to Hutchinson, Kansas. Drove through the outskirts of a little tornado, almost got thrown off the road a few times, got bruises all over from hail and shit that was hitting us and saw a few broken trees. If it wasn't for me being the slowest person on this earth we would probably have been in the middle of it. It was FUN! Wiie! I'm serious. I love storms, lighting, tornadoes.. Bring it on!

Memphis, Tennessee. Graceland, Elvis old house. We never went it I just wanted to stop by and take a look since we were going through Memphis anyway.

That's it folks! Well not really.. I still have loads of pictures that I need to upload in my gallery.. Like the ones of the tarantula we found and teased.. and our spider crab that we kept as a pet for a while haha. We named him Spidrus, I think he wanted to eat us

Swedish Midsummer

It's midsummer soon (june 20th) and just because a lot of the people I talk to on trig are americans I thought I (read: wikipedia) would explain how we celebrate it here in Sweden. So here we go:

The maypole (aka midsummer pole) is a tall wooden pole (traditionally of maple (Acer), hawthorn or birch), sometimes erected with several long colored ribbons suspended from the top, festooned with flowers, draped in greenery and strapped with large circular wreaths.

Common in all of Sweden are traditional ring dances, mostly in the form of dances where you are alternating dancing and making movements and gestures based on on the songs, such as frogs during the song Små grodorna (The little frogs).

Most of us also drink heavy amounts of alcohol (not me though) and some people wear this in their hair. I would totally wear one if it wasn't for my terrible fear of insects.
