This is Klay
Emerging from the rolling sand-dunes of sleepy Dawlish Warren in Devon, South-West four-piece Klay take up the challenge to awaken the senses of those unfamiliar with experimental rock in a crescendo of untamed riffs, crashing drums and sweeping melodies. The present line-up of Paul (lead singer/lead guitar), Scott (rhythm guitar), Lucy (bass) and Tom (drums /additional vocals), formed in the dwindling summer of 2005 and they have since been producing their own brand of cutting-edge rock, displayed in a host of dynamic and epic songs.
In what has felt like a lightning-fast year, the band have gone from strength to strength, developing new songs while expanding on and re-defining past themes. During this evolutionary stage in the band‘s life, they were approached by representatives from one of the U.K.’s leading independent labels in the alternative scene, Lockjaw Records. Now signed, they hope to move forward with the label and further their expedition into the national and international music scene.
Klay are certainly classified in the progressive realm of the rock-music family tree and, if you listen carefully, a sprinkling of influences can be found in their deeply layered walls of sound. The easiest comparisons to draw are with other similar, cross-genre, difficult to label bands such as Biffy Clyro, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and Dredg, however, Klay believe that their songs have a unique and captivating resonance of their own. Often with unusual introductions and a peppering of vocals as trademark signifiers, there is an electricity intrinsic to each Klay song ranging from foreboding and thunderous booms one moment to a shimmer of rippling echoes the next.
Since their discovery by Lockjaw, Klay have been playing countless shows across the UK, touring up and down the country throughout August of this year. This proliferation of gigs has given them the chance to interact with some high-calibre progressive bands. Over the past year, Klay have had the privilege of working with some of the finest alternative bands around, from both sides of the Atlantic. These include The Appleseed Cast, 65 Days of Static, YourCodeNameIs:Milo, Pelican, Kill Kenada, Lapsus Linguae, Thee More Shallows and Jetplane Landing.
With their powerful, dynamic and jaw dropping live performances and a truly remarkable debut album, Klay have now got everything it takes to unleash their potential to an unsuspecting public...
