Lodge Doom
The Walpurgis Session
29 April – 4 May 2008
I decided to buy whisky later and hit the road right away. 80
Swedish miles later I still hadn't gotten us any. And as the
roads got bumpier and as the north got closer I thought I'd lost
all hope. But I was wrong. Thomas von Wachenfeldt and the cats
were waiting at the cabin with a chock full of whisky and cases
of beer. Yes, the cabin, the old house on a hill in Gränsfors
known among the locals to be haunted.
We unpacked and had dinner together with Leo Flavum and started
working in late evening.
First steps were taken with Hidden Moriarty of Everyone, a tune
inspired by Scottish traditional music, with lyrics about a
railroad going bohemian lifestyle.
The working days turned into nights and nights broke into dawn.
17 hour long workdays and desolate nights with bloodshot eyes,
empty glasses and an endless amount of coffee and tea. And as
the hours floated by the visions came from that far away place,
far away from early morning news shows. Visions of Dunkelheit.
And as the cats ran in and out of the house we were locked in
the attic room recording.
We got Mr Flavum to lay some guest vocals on Hidden Moriarty of
Everyone, and he will probably be back for more overdubs.
We had no time to waste. No sleep, no showers, just drink and
play. The only recreational activities consisted of axe throwing
with the famous Gränsfors axes.
On the second day we completed the song Mason Word, which was
actually the first song ever written by Lodge Doom, a truly dark
piece with harmonies heard only in hell.
The third actual song of the Walpurgis session was Blue eyed
girls, which was, except for some basic chords, actually written
then and there, both music and lyrics.
Other songs were written before hand, such as Lodge Doom, The
Descent of Inanna and of course the mighty Templar House, a
homage to the Dunkelheit of north German baroquescene.
We are very satisfied with the result, and personally, being in
the trade for some 15 years, must say this is by far the best
recording I did take part in.
And before I knew it I was back on that road, that highway, en el
camino, on my way down south. Still the final mixing and
mastering is to come, as well as the recording of another guest
artist. Sol, from the Goth Electro band Solskugga will do some
vocal appearances.
Tracklist are as follow:
1. Lodge Doom
2. Hidden Moriarty of Everyone
3. Blue Eyed Girls
4. Mason Word
5. The Descent of Inanna
6. Templar House
Saludos of Dunkelheit!
