Happy New Years everyone

I hope everyone had a great time at whatever celebration you attended. For me, I enjoyed it to the limit and then some. A friend from Germany came for the start of the holidays (Thanksgiving) and decided to stay for all the celebrations; the most awesome time had.

I'm not going to bother with the resolution crap, I think they only slow me down trying to stay on track with them. My motto is if you are going to do whatever you want...then do it or forget it.

On the Broomfiller cover album contest, I want to congratulate Felix from New York for spotting 13 out of 17 images.

Fermented Soul

Your ideas of living is like a bitter pill
A ton of water and I still can’t swallow.
Can’t you see we’re very different
The after taste won’t go away.
You think you got me tied down
Your soul is fermented
but you were born with a cooked heart
Live it for what you got
I don’t have to follow...
Fighting the cold season? Get plenty of Vitamins A and C! Drink Guava!

I thought I would pass this information along to those who don't particular like drinking orange juice nor taking several vitamins and OTC cold medicines during Cold season. I always have plenty of Guava in the frig. A habit started from my mom, she would always have plenty of Guava stocked in the pantry during the winter seasons. The moment it started getting colder, she would give my siblings and I a 8oz glass of Guava before heading out to school and again after dinner for an after-dinner drink or just as a dessert because it is slightly sweet tasting and since we did not really go for much sweet things like cake, candy and such this was a perfect dessert.

Google Guava check it out, here is a summary of what you will read on Wikipedia.

Guava is a genus of about 100 species of tropical shrubs and small trees in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. Native to Mexico and Central America, northern South America, parts of the Caribbean and some parts of North Africa, it is now cultivated throughout the tropics. Numerous references in medical research identify guava as Psidium guajava.

Guavas are often considered superfruits, being rich in vitamins A and C, omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (mainly in the seeds which must be chewed to obtain the omega fats) and especially high levels of dietary fiber. A single guava contains over four times the amount of vitamin C as a single orange (228 mg per 100 g serving), and also has good levels of the dietary minerals, potassium, magnesium, and an otherwise broad, low-calorie profile of essential nutrients.

It is sold in most store in the ethic food aisle.
It's officially Thanksmas!

It starts day after Halloween, almost before it's over the store shelves and floors are decorated with flake snow, Christmas trees, plastic St. Nicks, and paper turkeys with goofy looking pilgrims. Yet! To me, it's not official until they key in the music, "Last Christmas" by WHAM! and "Carol Of Bells" by Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych.

However...

There I was in Walmart today, searching the racks for a fleece hoodie and heard 'Last Christmas, I gave you my heart but the very next day; you gave it away. This year, to save me from tears I'll give it to someone special...' I immediately started humming the tune and of course got it stuck in my head. Then so fittingly, before I could get to the checkout lane and get out of the store; Carols Of Bells started ringing. IT'S THANKSMAS! (Thanksgiving/Christmas - like they have to have both holidays advertised at the same time) Oh before the end of the week, I am bound to hear 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer'.
The day after my birthday…

Too much partying for sure, it was Sunday but I had a great time; two days of recovery. My wife, my brother, some long time friends, and I went to August Moon, I have all my favourites. Afterwards, we all hung out at different clubs partying; then I had to do some work at the office and then back to partying until 6AM. Presents! A lot of cool stuff but the one I wasn’t expecting that was the coolest, my wife got me The Bean… how cool is that thing? I think I did about 50 sit-ups with no back pain it felt like a massage.

I’m an old man now… the youth days are over haha!

Thanks everyone. Hope to see you there!
~TBM

Woah! October 26, what a great birthday present if only I was there. Well the thought of them performing slightly nearby on my birthday is a good present for me....for now. There is always Christmas =)

I did get an early present, well I think of it as a present from God. He gave me a new computer Wicked-awesome. I am so used to Windows XP, I have to re-train my brain to Vista and this stupid Windows Works Word processor doc.sheet; sometimes I can paste text onto it and sometimes I can't...what the dog poop is that. I like Office Word doc.sheet but if I send docs to people they can't read the file, I suppose due to they don't have Office Word. So far, I like how Vista handles it's organization of data; folders within folders and everything is categorized separated for better finding. Seeing all the window updates is a lot easier to find now, I could go on and on how I like how organized it is but I will save you the boring details... as some of you know I love being organized to the masses! A zone in a zone, in a zone and that is even in a zone.
Hi, this is your favourite telemarketer calling!!

Hi, I’m Kelly from credit card debt and loan, I see that you have over $5000 in debt on your credit cards, you can get this problem solved by paying one time fee… and I hang up; why? I don’t own any credit cards and I am not in debt.

If you want your number removed from our data base, please press 2 now. I press two and they inform me that my number has been removed; yet after two days they start calling again…Outrageous!

Hi, this is Chris and you are pre-approved for a free satellite dish for one year, press one to speak with a representative to see if you have other free offers.

Love the one, when I answer the phone I hear a ship horn blowing in the background. Hi, this is Sarah and you have won a trip to the Caribbean… I hang up, not interested in going to the Caribbean; if I can’t get the money to go on my own terms I don’t want to go.

Telemarketers, they never sleep or go home it seems. They start early in the mornings and end late at night sometimes, like around 11:30PM If I had a fiver for every telemarketer call I would have enough money to take a long vacation to New Zealand perhaps Germany or France… haha maybe all three places and stay for one or two weeks each; and still have enough money to help out my family.

I love the ones who get offensive when I tell them someone else had called me and told me the details of whatever product they are selling and that I’m not interested. Yes, I realise that they are trying to do a job but if I say I know all about their product due to another rep calling me and informing interruptedly to me at 8AM, 10AM, 11:30AM, 1PM, 3:14PM, and 5:25PM what makes them think I will be interested when they call, if I have said no to all those other calls?

I felt bad when the wind storm hit and people lost power, homes, part of their homes, the city seems quite; yet the traffic was still there but it was quiet, the most quiet was the phones, I feel sorry for the businesses who lost phone services for a week but on the other side I think no telemarketers today; the ones who are close to the East Coast…amazingly peaceful!
The animal population nearing extinction?

After reading several extremely long articles on stray animals, it appeared to me the problem the country has with stray animals, is the solution to have your pets spayed or neutered the right one?

Most strays used to have a warm home, when problems occur or oddly to say they no longer have a decent home, they are forced to live on the streets; searching for food and shelter. Sounds like a good plan, if they were spayed or neutered; those strays would not be giving the world more strays. However, if all the strays were admitted to a foster shelter and the ones that were not spayed or neutered yet were to be fixed before finding a permanent home, problem solved…correct? Here’s the confusion, let’s say all the animals have been spayed or neutered…everywhere and when the unfortunate time comes when they do die, will there be anymore animals?

Focused Thoughts

To sit and focus on one subject, one thought is almost impossible; some might say it is something that needs to be mastered. Have you ever looked at a rock, a tree, a flower and wondered how did it get its name? A tree… T-R-E-E --not the band; the perennial woody plant. Perhaps a mythology God invented the word ‘tree’ or invented the letters soon afterwards looking at the letter, discovering they spell something. If whoever spelled the letters a different way we might have been saying on Arbour Day, Go plant a wood for Arbour Day.

Trees, they are the most important objects of a landscape and a plethora of sources. Ridding harmful carbon oxides in the air, giving us shelter from the weather, or in most known factors giving us itself as to build a shelter, a comfortable ever-lasting home; furniture to pass down to many generations. A majestic provider … offers itself to the souls for warmth in a fireplace, in the past history, offering heat to cook food.

When I go for long walks along the walk trail in the park, the purposely planted trees seem to greet me as I walk by. Swaging in the wind so softly, whispering great stories, reassuring guidance. I sit on the stone wall, watching them swag, dance to its self-made music, listening carefully to each note; a true symphony.

"The affinities of all the beings of the same class have sometimes been represented by a great tree... As buds give rise by growth to fresh buds, and these if vigorous, branch out and overtop on all sides many a feebler branch, so by generation I believe it has been with the great Tree of Life, which fills with its dead and broken branches the crust of the earth, and covers the surface with its ever branching and beautiful ramifications." -- Charles Darwin, 1859

Wood is apart of our every day lives, as a musician two of the greatest invention are used; F. G. Keller invented paper and Vinaccia and Antonio Torres Jurado separately invented the guitar. Frankly amazing to say the least how these people took wood and made them into something so practical yet of great importance to the world then and now. And it started with a Tree.

Each word sometimes puzzles me, how in the heavens did these words come about, for example the sentence I just stated -- Each? Word? Sometimes?… it blows my mind …tripped-out rad!
4:30 AM and I am still up working. Finally finished a review on Dust Covered Carpet new album release and posted that.

Added a punch of my favourite bands' photos to my gallery. (I hope all does not mind I added their shots, if not I guess I'll hear about it. It's only for promoting their music).

Posted Dust Covered Carpet interview.

Working on Keram Malicki-Sanchez review and some other reviews for Stream Of Consciousness.

This is how I spend my day off, instead of sleeping haha.

The Verve are BACK!!! It's a new kind of Bittersweet Symphony but not too new!

I cannot believe it, it has been since '97 since I heard anything from this band. Finally, back together and they have released a new album, titled, 'Forth'. The first single off the album is 'Love Is Noise', still there are some old tricks left in Ashcroft with the poppy sound effects and the melodramatic surrounding splash throughout the track. The moment I hear it I start to perk up and take notice and start to head bop. 'Love Is Noise' about the outlook of the world, you will definitely get the message.

However, thinking what is in store for this album and band; for now I would think it is another 'yeah we'll here and really to kick arse again; nonetheless it will make fans want more.
Disturbed - Inside The Fire

This Illinois band is by far one of my favourite bands. The moment I hear one of their songs on the radio, I crank the volume to the heavens. Their new video ‘Inside The Fire’ directed by Nathan "Karma" Cox is highly intense and soul-gripping; solely heart felt of the devastating grief of the song’s real life storyline which is about a girl who commits suicide that personally affected, David Draiman, Disturbed’s vocalist.

The spin shots are filled with sorrow, occasional screen-cuts of blood draining down the walls and the band’s faces and hands are heavily smeared with blood. If one is squeamish about seeing blood, then this might not be your cup of tea but a must see video.
Interesting story - Are you gay?

http://www.wikiupload.com/images/gay.php

As the old saying has it - never judge a book by its cover. Never judge a headline or in this case never judge a name.

Don’t fly me,

It has been reported that an employee for Ansett Australia [Airlines], who happened to have the last name of Gay, got on a plane recently using the company’s ‘Free Flight’ offer for staff. However, when Mr. Gay tried to take his seat, he found it being occupied by a fare paying passenger.

So, not to make a fuss, he simply chose another seat. Unknown to Mr. Gay, another Ansett flight at the airport experienced mechanical problems. The passengers of this flight were being re-routed to various other airplanes. A few were put on Mr. Gay’s flight and anyone who was holding a ‘free’ ticket was being ‘bumped’. Ansett officials, armed with a list of these ‘freebee’ ticket holders boarded the plane, as is the practise, to remove them in favour of fare paying passengers. Of course, our Mr. Gay was not sitting in his assigned seat as you may remember. So when the Ticket Agent approached the seat were Mr. Gay was supposed to be sitting, she asked a startled customer “Are you gay?” the man, shyly nodded that he was, at the which point she demanded: “Then you have to get off the plane.” Mr. Gay overhearing what the Agent had said, tried to clear up the situation: “You’re got the wrong man. I’m Gay!” This caused an angry third passenger to yell “Hell! I’m gay too! They can’t kick us all off!” Confusion reined as more and passengers began yelling that Ansett had no right to remove gays from their flights…. --New York Times

Interview with Kevin M. Kirker June 2008

Kevin M. Kirker
Vocalist, harpist, songwriter

For more information on Kevin M. Kirker:
http://www.kevinmkirker.com
http://www.myspace.com/kmk808

Interviewer: Hawk Chavez
mousagenrepromotions@gmail.com

Via myspace request I discovered another upcoming musical talent, Kevin M. Kirker, an instrumentalist and songwriter. I got the opportunity to interview Kevin about the ins and outs of music and then some.

MG: Do you write your own music?

Kevin: Yep! I’ve tried working other musicians in the past but it usually doesn’t work out. I need to do things my own way. At least, for now.

MG: I assume ‘Our Story Now Begins’ is base on true life experiences?

Kevin: Yeah, a good portion of the lyrics are verbatim from my personal collection of unsent letters. Or letters sent to me. I didn’t do much in the way of abstract imagery or metaphors, most everything is simple and meant to tell a story clearly.

MG: What made you choose the harp? What type of harp do you play?

Kevin: Hmm, when I was a kid it was the best sounding instrument to me. I grew older and got into the machismo of the guitar. It’s still a badass instrument, but there are millions of guitar players out there now. I spent a long time trying to figure out how to play guitar like a harp. Eventually I just decided that it would be better if I played harp.

I’ve got a giant 46 string Venus pedal harp, I use that for recording since it’s too hard to transport. My second one is a small lever harp that’s light and easy to move around.

MG: Do you play any other instruments than the harp?

Kevin: Oooh yeah, I got a nice little collection of instruments now! I’m learning some new ones too. I think overall… hold on let me go look. I got a big assortment of different kinds of guitars. I got a mandolin, banjo, glockenspiel, various keyboards. I’m starting to get decent at drumming, but I don’t think it’ll show up on any future records.

I’ve got some ukuleles now, a bunch of different kinds of flutes and wind instruments. I have a shakuhachi that I haven’t figured out how to play yet. I hope I can do that one day. I just got a snake charmer, it sounds awesome. I have a mini toy accordion that’s becoming one of my favorite instruments. I have too many to list and keep track of I guess.

MG: What are your thoughts on the state of the Music industry predominantly with major labels?

Kevin: It’s at a big turning point now. The big four record companies are slowly losing their grip. The internet has changed everything. Before, if you weren’t with a big record company you had no way of promoting your music. With the internet, even somebody relatively unknown can get recognition. In two or three generations, I think music will be back in the hands of the people again. For better or worse.

I think what we’ll see is the fall of the superstar; the fall of the universally acclaimed musician that’s adored the world over. In it’s place we’ll have a horde of moderately successful musicians earning only a decent living but having loyal fans. That’s just my guess, though.

MG: Does your family have any musical talents?

Kevin: Ha! Me having any musical talent is debatable, let alone my family. No, I think there’s lots of good musicians in my family. Too many to list.

MG: Do you perform in public or for private events?

Kevin: I’m a bit of a hermit, so it’s been quite a long time since I played a show. I play over the phone to people sometimes; I think that’s about it. I’m obsessed with writing songs so that’s been my focus for a long time. I’m not very good at it though, so it takes awhile.

MG: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time in which you practice?

Kevin: There was a point in time where I practiced 10+ hours a day, but those days are long gone for me now. I usually just write songs away from instruments, then learn how to play them later. That’s the extent of my practice these days.

MG: What is your ultimate direction for your music?

Kevin: Hard to say. My only real goal was to just make something that moved people, I guess. In that respect, the response from people has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m grateful for all the people who seem to have been touched by what I’ve done. I get alot of heartfelt emails, and it’s crazy to me that I could effect anyone so deeply. Just a few years ago, I was totally alone. And now to somehow be apart of so many’s people lives is just a strange, wonderful feeling.

I suppose my goal hasn’t changed. I’d like to make more music that resonates with people, even if it’s flawed or not that great.

MG: Music-wise, what are your ongoing plans? Any upcoming albums, projects?

Kevin: I was working on a triple album, but now I’m considering throwing it away and starting over. I usually keep my website, http://www.kevinmkirker.com, pretty updated with what’s going on musically. It’s always changing since I usually tackle more than I can handle.

MG: What aspect of making music excites you the most right now?

Kevin: The fact that I can share whatever I make with nearly anyone in the world via the internet. What an amazing, wonderful tool. It’s a great time to be a songwriter I think.

MG: What do you hope for other musicians of your genre to achieve?

Kevin: I don’t listen to much music anymore so I haven’t been able to keep track of what’s going on with the kind of music I make.. but I’d hope that more people are taking chances now. I feel like people are starting to get bored of hearing guitar/bass/drums every song. I think they’re starting to get bored of being told what to feel, and just want something real. I’m not sure though.

I guess I just hope fellow musicians are able to work hard and get rewarded accordingly. It’s difficult to see people work so hard on something musical and have it not pay off for them in the end.

BROOMFILLER - Enter The Storm - Review May 2008

Toronto, Canada
Unsigned
Alternative Modern Punk
Yunta EP. 1996, Goggles EP 1998/2000, Watching The Girls Go Bi – 2002, Enter The Storm – 2006/07
http://www.broomfiller.com
Hawk
mousagenrepromotions@gmail.com

Enter The Storm is the latest full-length album for this the Canadian band, This 16-track album is filled with uplifting bass and guitars, pumped vocals with trouncing drums which was all written and performed by Leko. The album follows the popular “Watching The Girls Go Bi” which took the US College radio stations by storm; I see no problem with a repeat performance.

Leko changes it up for this album; it is the same Richard Leko skills only slightly semi-edged out. It’s more Foo Fighters with a blend of Nirvana and a side dish of twisted Depeche Mode. Clearly one can hear it in “Control” raw vocals, mellow-savvy guitars and b-kicking drums.

The eye-turn on is “You Can Have It All”, Leko shows his more mellowed side well as mellow as one can get. Still the heaviness of the drums and guitars play throughout this track however, lyrically it’s a soothing the beast combination. As well as with the track “Motorcade” with an old plimpy 70’s guitar feel (only guitarists know that phrase) “Motorcade was a pleasant experience, perfect timing on the drum chorus, Leko vocals are on key, still utmost rawness but they don’t over power this track. “Back Down” has a System of the Down feel at the starting gate after that, it goes to left field in a good way. The drum-bass are on the money, added note – I think Animal from The Muppets joined the band and is jamming on the drums (yes, Animal is a cool drummer).

Of course knowing BROOMFILLER, they always (in most cases) have a bonus track…a teaser for the fans. Just when you think it is over the thunder kicks in more and the storm ‘enters’ with roaring Tokyo Drift drums, fiery guitars soaks everything in sight, as quickly as it began it ends, the skies open up and the drums and guitar begin to sing as to birds do after the passing of the rain.

Recommendations: “Control”, “Fonzysnap”, “Motorcade”

Track listings:
01. The Cause
02. Drain Ho
03. Bed Of Fire
04. Carosel
05. Fonzysnap
06. Turn
07. Control
08. I Won’t Leave You There
09. You’re Fading Away
10. Rusty Cage
11. Windsor Bukkake
12. Buffalo Hazney
13. You Can Have It All
14. Motorcade
15. Back Down

4.5/5

One Silent Night

The neighbours’ dogs aren’t barking
nothing is stirring;
the night sky is calm.
One car passing by
And I’m holding you in my arms.
Watching you breathe,
in sync with me.
This world over time
is becoming no part of mine.
Our eyes glazes into each others,
A smile raises from inside.
Let me take you on that ride,
our souls coincide.
With you in my world,
I know everything will be fine.
It’s a Thursday or Joiday

While sitting in the doctors’ office waiting patience for the nurse to call me back to exam room, glancing at my watch even fifteen minutes; I started wondering why was it so crowded in the office most times I am there on a Monday or Friday, sometimes a Tuesday and it doesn’t seem that crowded. I asked myself ‘what is today’ my mind answered ‘it’s Thursday’. Suddenly I noticed other patients wondering the same thing and began to discuss it. One lady told everyone in the room that the moment she woke up that morning, she noticed a lot of things that seemed odd. Another lady announced that the traffic seems to be more in a rage than other days; she continued to say that she noticed it always appears that way toward the end of the week. I asked both ladies when they notice these things, is that day a Thursday? They both agreed that yes it was a Thursday; swiftly everyone started discussing same events that happens on a Thursday.

It used to be strange things happens on a Monday, either you feel tired from the weekend and the day seems to drag and you are not with it no matter how many cups of coffee you drink. Now, it is all about Thursday, Thursdays are the new Mondays.

Toward the end of our discussion, we all agreed that it started when Daylight Saving Time went into affect. That screwed up the atmosphere of people’s minds, perhaps it was a Thursday when DST was started, I could be wrong but just think ‘how many things can you think of that seems odd, screwed up, or just out of sort’ is it a Thursday? What day is it when you think the day is Friday when it is not? - (and that could be from the fact that in the Judeo-Christian calendar it is considered the fifth day). What day is it when things seem to slow down and become boring? What day is it when you think about the weekend more? What day is it when everyone in its grandmother-hood needs things to be done? Is it a Thursday?

I think so that everyone can manage their stress levels Thursdays should be made a holiday, okay I know that will never happen but seriously I think sometimes Thursdays needs to be ignored, skipped over, or basically change its name to something else; since the fact Thursday comes from the Old English influence of Old Norse meaning Day of Thunor and draft of the Germanic, equivalent to Latin Lovis Dies, Jupiter’s Day; and since most countries announced Thursday equivalent to that of Spain - Jueves, Romanian - Joi, France - Jeudi; even in the Hindi language it is about the same - Guruvar. Perhaps change it to Jupday, Jupiday, or Joiday?

Got hair wash?

A poem by Marissa Dodge brought back memories of my days as a child getting my hair.

How this brings back memories odd to say, yes I as a little one getting his hair washed was like an insane torture for my mom, trying to wash the suds out of my hair while I gathered the lather and placed them on my face like shaving cream. It all ended quickly when she hosed me in the face with the sprayer. Though it was a joy of getting my hair by my mom, I would feel extra relaxed and often drifted off to sleep once she was done or I would drift off during the rinse cycle as I called it as a child; I figured it was the crushed lemongrass and rosemary extracts, the smell was so heavenly, it is no wonder I am not still asleep today. The things kids will think of, those days are gone but not forgotten. Filled with energy…yes but not anymore, now it is a multivitamin that gives the energy so I can stay awake to finish all I need to do. However, when I am slightly finished it is often I do not go to sleep, as I did as a child… those days are gone but not forgotten.

True things aren’t the same as they were back then, often nothing really is; the most new and improved are the most need to go back to the drawing board. It is true that some say do not live in the past, look forward to tomorrow; as they say Nankurunaisa! But if we do not go back in the past how do we prepare ourselves for the tomorrow? What we did back then we certainly do not want to do in the present nor the future. As I look back to the child in the past, I do not see a child… I see an adult that was still growing.

Hear That Sound?

If you strip down the facts you will see everyone has an addition. Some stronger than others nonetheless it is there… here, there, everywhere,… everywhere you look. It has been around since the beginning it comes in all forms and lurks in the strangest places. Have you notice it? It’s in our blood some would even say people need it to survive. In my opinion, that is true; it makes up at least two-thirds of who we really are, some would beg the difference. Where would you be without it? Walking around in the world aimlessly? If you didn’t want it, it would still be there in your life. So how addicted are you……to music?
