Mystery of Sorrow - the split personallity - music & art
THE MUSICIAN
Mystery of Sorrow is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and ex Vanishment (now reformed as Atticist) keyboardist & vocalist David 'Bat' Ayala AKA the artist formerly known as Fritz. Started prior to 2000 , MoS was an outlet for David to explore other musical styles. MoS's influences were originally a bit on the obscure side for the casual music listener. Keyboardist Kevin Moore may perhaps be the chief culprit, specifically the track "Space Dyed Vest" from Dream Theater's Awake along with more recent work with Fates Warning and O.S.I. The sorrowful sounds of the gothic, female fronted bands Theatre Of Tragedy, Within Temptation and the Gathering are a good example of the over all sound MoS might try to capture while sometimes drawing from the epic, bombastic orchestrations of Kamelot, Nightwish and Symphony X to compliment the Mystery of Sorrow sound.
Shortly after Mystery of Sorrow's creation, the song "Missing" exploded onto MP3.com (R.I.P.) as something of an independent internet radio hit, at one point topping the Gothic charts with a number one ranking. Here's what some one internet radio station had to say:
"A one man project from Las Vegas, Nevada. Currently there are only two tracks on his page, and this one [missing] is the darkest of the two. A slowly building arrangement of piano lines and eerie flute and pad sounds. It's also interspersed with occasional spoken word vocal - warped by an effects processor. It works quite well though. Very different from most of the songs on Gloom Beat. " --Gloom Beat Radio
In late 2005, David left Vanishment (not an easy decision) and moved from Nevada to Iowa where Mystery of Sorrow is now his only musical endeavor. He would love to work with serious, skilled musicians in the Ottumwa, Iowa area to make Mystery Of Sorrow a professional caliber live performing band, but suspects this is highly unlikely. At some point in the future he may complete his otherwise mostly completed full length CD, but not until finding just the right female voice to compliment his music and musical vision.

After the song ALONE, 5Th DEGREE BURN was always a close 2nd favorite of mine when we were Vanishment
much respect
Corey
Check it out---We think Kirk did a great job on the vocal scrambles and stuff.
Tell me what you think.
By the way, more shows---actually close to once a week for a while.
Every show is going better than the last. We are getting so much positive responce, it's kinda surreal.
How are things on your end of the world ?
Much respect
Corey
Not only did everyone get there musical ass kicked,
We shook stuff off the walls ( really, we're trying to convert the video form a tape so we can post the footage)----Dave got blamed for knocking a signed guitar off the wall, and at rehearsal, last night,
we watched it fall by its self during the song Backbone.
We're taking this video back to the bar just to show them---It didn't get damaged either (major relief) The bar still wants us to come back for more shows----but we want them to see, we didn't touch their guitar----we didn't have to, we shook it down.
