Just close your eyes and take solace in the lies...

Call me Rowly.

I play the guitars, bass and drums, sing and write the music and lyrics for Optikal Delusion.

Op Del formed in 2003 in an isolated corner of central western New South Wales.
Not having any friends with musical inclination, Rowly began writing and recording on his own in his bedroom using the recording program Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 3 and an Ashton MXL8 mixer.

The songs that Optikal Delusion aims to produce addresses issues of social breakdown, focusing on the degradation of morals, the dehumanization of "Civilization" as well as universal issues such as the loss and gain of love.

Now based in suburban Sydney, Rowly continues to write and record in solitude, not yet overcoming the comfort he finds therein from growing accustomed to isolation over the period of 4 years, although Rowly has begun a project with close friend Shaun, lead guitarist in Sydney based Metal band Decipher.

What's in a name....

I'm thinking of changing my band name.

I've been thinking that "Optikal" is a bit paradoxical; anything optical, you can see or is of or pertaining to vision.

So I'm thinking of losing the Optikal part.

As a new name, I am considering Paradel.

You may notice that I have kept the delusion part, albeit in ...

Hi there thanx for the comment   no problem I believe in letting people know when I like their music and think it is good Yeah I couldn't agree with you more about Jared I admire him so much as he is just so multi-talented  I often wonder if there is anything he can't do!  He is also a brilliant director and has directed  the bands music video's for  ' The Kill and ' From Yesterday' under the alias of Bartholomew Cubbins. Live in concert they are just the most amazing band I've ever seen and every performance gets better and better

First of all, this sort of hard rock, doesn’t tend to be my thing on the most part. The heaviest I go is QOTSA or Audioslave. There’s a bit of a nickleback/green day type sound in your voice. The vocals didn’t seem to match the music for me on the first song, it sounded a little forced without much benefit (kurt cobain, forcing sometimes adds to things, other times, not so much). The atmosphere created on the first song was quite interesting, but the electronic sounds, didn’t quite add to it for me.

The second song started nicely enough, and the vocals were a little more gentle, much more in the audioslave line of stuff. I wasn’t sure why the vocal volume needed to increase how it did, (or whatever that effect was). Lol, I was just looking at your influences and saw tool. I have a tool album, but I only bought it cos of bill hicks. The stuff’s too heavy for me.

Your music sounds ‘like that genre’ so that’s good, as I say it’s not really my genre of choice. I liked the grunge minibreak half way through the last song. Tbh, I found the lyrics sort of in the background, and didn’t find myself picking out the lyrics, much. All in all, very similar songs, of the same genre. Might be worth trying to slow things up in terms of how you build a song. The genre you aim at, seems to like the bass line start, with drums, then straight into mode it continues in for the rest of the song. Perhaps try a whispery mouthy start vocal wise, slowly building?....... As I say, not my genre, as with a lot on trig, it’s not what I listen to regularly. Hey, what can I say, I can’t exactly talk, my music is equally trying to break into the world’s consciousness.

Hope that helps, and you feel it’s constructive. Here’s to creating music.
