Went out for a wee run in my brother’s car this afternoon to North Berwick. He just wanted to get out of the city and go for a short drive and I tagged along. For those who don’t know; North Berwick is a small seaside town about 25 miles East of Edinburgh on the coast of the Firth of Forth. It’s one of those places that both me and my brother love to visit as we used to go there for holidays almost every year when we were wee, and I’ve not been back to for about 3 years.
The drive was quite good fun, we took the coastal route and my brother was determined to overtake anyone possible. He was in a good mood so I even got to hook my ipod up for some driving tunes. I did however have to stay away from the metal and just play more classic rock types. Not a problem, and my brother’s new favourite driving tune is now “Back In Black”.
Once we arrived we had a short wander along the beach before heading to the harbour. On the far side are lots of rocks leading out to the sea so we decided to go as far out as possible without getting blown over, passing a sign telling us “Danger Drop”. Even as we were standing there we could see the tide coming in, so made it quick and headed back in. We then went for a walk along the main street hoping that Sugar Mountain was open so we could get some Soor Plooms which are a must for us on any trip to North Berwick. Unfortunately it wasn’t open but we found another place and got a bag there before heading back to the car. It was then decided that we’d drive up towards Berwick Law – which is a huge hill that looks over the town. The road around it is a nice twisty one so Stuart had great fun chucking the car round the corners, tyres screeching, with me videoing the whole thing...possible bribe material I think.
We must have only spent about an hour or so actually in the town but we decided to head home after that. I’m thinking my brother being able to drive is looking like a good thing. Now I just need to plan were else we can visit...
