Ruisrock. Day two. 5/7/08

Saturday. After a truly shit night of not much sleep on a gym hall floor, with no sleeping bag and fucking Arctic air conditioning, Janne, Steffen and myself headed out for something to eat. Again, the weather was hot so we just lazed around the market square for a while, when the most surreal thing happened... a guy appeared playing the bagpipes! Now I don’t want to be mean but he was not of the standard that I expect from a piper. He wasn’t even wearing a kilt!! There were quite a few people at the festival (speaking Finnish) who were wearing ‘kilts’, and it did actually make me cringe at how bed some of them looked... Anyway, back to Ruisrock, and we did pretty much as the day before and I popped into the crowd for the 69 Eyes, who as always, sounded great live. We then headed around to the main stage during The Ark’s set. I’d never heard of them and won’t be buying their stuff but the singer seemed an interesting fellow... We worked our way into the crowd whilst they played and then once they were off we headed for the front. Steffen stayed further back and Janne and I went forward, although we did end up getting separated. Managed to get onto the second row behind some short-arse so I was happy. HIM came on at midnight and... I think this deserves a special mention, since it actually looked so good... Burton came out in a white suit. Storm – I didn’t mean to look, but it was so bright it was hard not to! They guys played a pretty standard set and Bam came on during one song to do some filming (he’d done the same with Hanoi Rocks earlier in the day). Typical Bam though, the camera was right up Ville’s nose. He looked a little put off by it and gave Bam a gentle kick in the balls to get his point across... The last song of the set was the one I’d most been looking forward to, as they played Rebel Yell, and I’d not heard that one live before. It was great. With HIM being the main reason that I’d made this trip, I was more than happy, and we still had one more day to go...
