Was It A Dream?

30 Seconds To Mars played a sold-out show March 6 at The Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans.

When we filed into the venue, we were only a few rows from the stage. A local band, Pandemic, was booked to open the show. I'm not familiar with their work, but hey weren't bad to listen to though. A lot of the crowd was singing along, so they seem to have a decent fan base.

(Before I continue with this story, I have to point out something about myself. I like to be in the middle of everything. I like to get the full experience. The only problem is that if anyone is going to get hurt at a show, it's going to be me. Apparently, musicians like to abuse me. I have gotten hit in the head with drum sticks, hit in the eye with guitar pics, and I've even had a mic thrown at me - not to mention, all the times I've been soaked with anything from water to wine. My worse injuries to date happened at an AFI show. I left the concert bleeding and bruised from being in the front row, in the midst of the mosh pit.)

Toward the end of Pandemic's set, they threw some demo CDs into the audience. Of course, I get hit in the head with one. Not just smacked on the forehead, the corner (the point) of the CD made contact with my head and at such a velocity that it bent the case. I thought my injury for the night had been put behind me with this hit to the head.

I was looking forward to not only hearing 30 Seconds To Mars but also seeing 30 Seconds To Mars. I seem to have an attraction to androgynous men. I like pretty men and Jared Leto is absolutely beautiful in the video for "From Yesterday". Something about a pretty guy wearing a lot of eyeliner and nail polish gets me all heated. But to my horror, when Jared hit the stage, he was sporting a full beard. Nothing could have turned me off faster than the facial hair. He has the most gorgeous eyes, but I couldn't get past that beard. Those crystal eyes were lost somewhere.

The actual show was great. The drummer, Shannon, is amazing to watch - he rocked out behind the kit the entire night. I already had an appreciation for Tomo; I think he's an awesome guitar player (Along with androgynous men, I have a soft spot for guitar players). Matt had already left the band by the time they played New Orleans, so we were able to check out the new bass player.

I was disappointed with a few of the songs. I love to hear a guy sing, scream, and growl like he has been wounded. Jared pulls that off on the recording of the album "A Beautiful Lie". He failed to come through on the growls at our show.

Jared also didn't come out into the crowd for "The Kill" like he has in the past. That was understandable, being that he got injured doing that just five days earlier. (30 Seconds To Mars was playing a Taste Of Chaos show and Jared went into the crowd. The audience mobbed him. He got pretty bruised up and finished the show with a broken nose. Not only finished that show, but continued the 30 Seconds tour. He declared that Taste Of Chaos show one of the best shows of the tour.) Instead of coming out into the audience at our show, Jared opted to climb on top of a speaker and hang from one of the rafters.

As far as my own injures, I got a little bruised up myself. Jared encouraged the audience to crowd surf and mosh. I had a guy, who was crowd surfing, land on the right side of my body. I haven't completely healed from the AFI show. My arm still has a scar and already I have another injury. I left this show limping, my shoulder bruised, and my chin sore. I don't remember getting hit in the face, but I guess that could have happened. I lost my balance when the guy fell on me.

I'm 30, why do I still put myself through this? I don't know? Life is short. I'm trying to fit in as much as I can. I don't ever want to regret not doing something. I, at least, have to go out and give it a try.

Thanks for stopping in New Orleans on this tour 30, Seconds To Mars. I would definitely check them out again… (Hopefully Jared shaves that godawful beard off next time)

And, thanks for the CD, Pandemic.

Wow. That sounds like that was a GREAT concert. Jared is still very hot even if he has a beard though. Was it like a Brawny Commercial beard or a "I forgot to shave" beard?

(Sorry if that question made no sense what-so-ever. xD)
