NC Scrimmage a thon and MVPs

Most of you know i play roller derby. Only Some of you know i went to the Scrimmage-a-thon in North CArolina this weekend. It started out a tad rough with bad weather heading down on Saturday. Kristen aka Raven Darkhold rode down with me and took pics of the snow and ice as it pelted the windshield. We checked into the Days inn and met the coolest front desk dude ever. He used to live in Richmond and had never heard of the Carolina Rollergirls. He was new to NC, so he was forgiven. The rest of my room crew, Ram Jam Betty and Devil Bitch aka DB came about an hour later and after ordering chinese and more towels and convo from the front desk dude we went to sleep.
However! around 230 the drunk college kids across the hall, who i knew were gonna be trouble, started screaming and yelling and whooping it up, breaking beer bottles and slamming doors. I thought the alcohol would kick in soon and they would fall asleep. NOPE! Then some ghetto
chick got pissed cause some girl was shacking up with her BF and started screamign and yelling in the hall banging on the door correction, all the doors in the hall way. Armed with my hairbrush Raven and DB opened the door to teach the girl a lesson. By then the front desk dude had corralled her to her room and "calmed " her down. We got back in bed and were almost back to sleep when she came back banging on doors and, slamming doors and whooping and hollering after another call to the dude we decided to call the po po. Once they extracated themselves from there donuts they arrived, and must have been chatting with the cool front desk dude cause we called again and moments later they were at the door across the hall. Why does alcohol make people soooooooooooo dumb? When police are at your door, don't ask them for a place to get some food, and don't try and hide from them. The police reminded them they weren't at a bar, but a hotel where people try and sleep. They also made them aware of the time( 4 am) and that they would be arrested or kicked out if they had to come back. I'm surprised i remember that cause in the gang of cops outside the door the one closest to my door had his lil gun drawn, and he was looking mighty fine. So after the excitement a few NOW GET OUT references we fell asleep and awoke a tad later than we wanted to. But all was well, we got a free room and a free comp nite so we were happy again. Especially after the muffins, toast and orange juice.
Then we were off to the Dorton Arena for a day of scrimmaging. Dorton Arena, home of the Carolina Rollergirls. I never thought i would skate in an arena, i was pscyhed. After watching our buddies the rogue rollergirls demolish richland county, then watched palmetto and rogue give us a good game, i was itching to skate on concrete for the first time ever! on the warm up track i was good but when it came time for my first scrimmage, Team Scrawny vs the Heavy Hitters (guess what side i was on) i was slipping all over myself and feeling not so sure i was good enough to be out there. Mostly cause it always seemed Teflon Donna was hitting me in my chest. She even freakin kept up with me doing my airplan take off get away i always do exiting the pack. my confidence shaken and my shins aching i slinked back to the merch booth. I adjusted my skates, rotated my wheels, loosened my truck and opened my secret weapon. Liquid Crack! aka Rockstar Energy drink in the purple can. No matter how much water i had drank, and i had had plenty before my first scrimmage, there is nothing better than good old caffiene, guanine and B vitamins to get you right and hype again. By the time it was time for my second scrimmage MILFS vs Kid-haters with my girls Bull Lee, EverGrace, Raci Lords(all MILFs) and Old Skool Beatdown(Fellow kid hater) i was already feeling better and doing one hundred percent better than i had during Team Scrawny. I was proud of myself for being able to hold back Bull Lee a little, but realized i needed to think of something new so i didn't use forearms and elbows, my major penalites that time.
So waiting around for my last scrimmage Loudmouths vs Silent Killers, i wandered around and said hey to some of my favorite derby girls i'd played with over the year like Suicide Barbie, the DDG ladies and the Rogue Gang. And Met a few new faces as well, the Other RCR, Rich City Rollergirls, who i had met earlier in the day, who had another 69 eyes fan ( who would have known) Ginger Injure and Cinnamon Burn, the girls with the Carolina and atlanta rollergirls merch booth, Also the only other chick in leather shorts Kali from the debutante Brawlers! It's good to meet other chicks in leather. We warmed up with Mordant and Oblivion from Carolina pre silent killers scrimmmage and i determined then to solely use my hips for this last scrimmage. it's a move i can never execute cause i can never get my timing right, i was determined to get it right this scrimmage. cut to only 20 mins, i jammed once and did blocker one and two the rest of the time. After my first jam, i felt good, then the second jam i was in i was able to hip check a girl who was easily twice my size and took her down. I was stoked and unstoppable from that point forward. i had a few falls that were skull rattling but i got back up and hip checked some more. I even Hip checked two girls at once and took them both down, of course i went down as well but they went down first :0). I heard screamed from the sidelines don't let that lil skinny girl check you like that, and i couldn't help but laugh. I've never checked any one without the element of surprise and/or a bunch of speed behind me. Of course Helena (Helena handbag) told me to stop laughing, and Freakin' Jersey told me to stop apologizing when i hit someone. Sorry it's a habit. :0) All in All that was my best Scrimmage of the day, i really applied all the things i'd observed and learned that day. I even got MVP for the Silent Killers team. I was really honored! i'll have pics of my trophy up in the derby section later. I was hype the entireway home. I've never done such a good job blocking before. I usually have to focus on jamming with RCR, so i didn't feel as confident with my blocking skills. I now know what i should use to block effectively, my hips! and Liquid Crack! :0) I also know never to doubt myself cause of my size. My new Derby Motto is the following: The Bigger they are, the Harder they fall.
