About SC9
Storm Cloud Nine is the creative outlet of Connor Murray (me). The sound you hear is a mix of influences ranging from Powernoise to Darkwave to Technical Metal to video game OSTs. Storm Cloud Nine operates through a combination of Reason 4.0, Logic/Pro Tools, Sound Miner, and various NI synths. Original sounds are often recorded and edited as well. Musically, SC9's themes focus on contrast between that which is natural and that which is synthetic. The clash between Natural and Industrial, and the similarity they share in both being semi-sentient forces that are dangerous to humanity (I'm something of a misanthrope). Plus I just find nature AND technology equally aesthetically pleasing. The name Storm Cloud Nine implies many things but perhaps the most obvious is a tainted or darkened paradise. Lyrically, when there are lyrics (which I try to restrict to about 1 out of every 3 or 4 songs), the focus is on personal experience AND personal thought. While some songs may be wrought with emotion others are more commentary on the state of humanity in a metaphysical or philosophical way. Sometimes just odd things I notice blown out of proportion in my mind.. Also the titles of my songs are pivotal, to me anyway. I decide on the titles before I even write the song, and usually the entire meaning of the song is in the title. The title is the name, what you hear is the face. Given that, most of my songs are purely conceptual or non-objective. Many of them are more about ideas and thoughts than actual experience.
I write songs very fast and I'm averaging at about 100 songs a year. Thats about 2 songs a week. Lately I've slowed down to try and expand my song-writing process and skills, work on vocals, learn some new programs, and do some recording to get some of my own personalized sounds/samples.
Note: in the songs where I am screaming, I AM ACTUALLY SCREAMING. I am not whispering and amping it up or distorting it like so many people do nowadays. The only effects I put on my voice are EQ, Delay, and occasional chorus/phasers. My pipes still aren't perfect and in half my songs I use more of an oratory copy-paste vocal style which is fun too, but I've worked hard to use my voice as I have so don't make ASSumptions.
Also I have a myspace and vf.
