I may have got the oddest picture in a photo pit when I went to pick up my kit on the way out, as nonchalantly hopping past the speaker stacks, which vibrated hard enough to spill one photographer’s beer, and off under the stage was a frog (toad?) I couldn’t decide whether to photograph it or trig it, but it was a bit small and probably wouldn’t have signed up for a profile anyway.

I met possibly the only person more excitable and emotional than me about meeting her favourite band, as she sat grinning from ear to ear while I was out meeting the masses.

And then I met Trig – The Next Generation, who didn’t seem at all moved by folk metal, Viking or not.

The legs below belong to someone I actually met on a plane from Amsterdam to Hamburg on the way to Wacken (small world eh). I wanted to Trig them but had only cards not stickers …aarrrggh!

On the way through backstage to go and shoot Epica, I bumped into Cristina (Lacuna Coil) and took a shot of her with the infamous Bloodstock painting, by festival organiser, metal maniac and artist, Paul Gregory. He paints a new one for each festival and it’s signed by the bands throughout the day.

So then, front and centre for Epica's set.

Then after signing the painting and doing a couple of band shots, they faced the huge queue of fans waiting to get stuff signed and I dragged a Roman off to the Trig banner for a pic. One of the great things about this festival is the public signing sessions, which sometimes last for hours and go down so well with the fans of course!

Nevermore’s set managed to kick off the best mosh pit I’d seen so far, which I also grabbed a minute or two of on video (videos will be uploaded to view shortly).

Final band I caught on camera today was headliners Lacuna Coil, who played out a great finish to the first full day of Bloodstock.

After seeing off the Wolf, I finally gathered up the weekend lodgers and headed for home, fully intending to sleep. But sleep is for wimps .. and THIS IS METAL!!
