Wacken Festival

Covering the Wacken Festival in Germany wasn't going to be an easy feat. For a start, it's the largest metal music festival in the world. I mean, this thing is huge. B-I-G.

I met up with Alli in Hamburg airport, where we had some time to kill and loads of catching up to do (Alli only flew back from my house less than 48 hours previous). Because it was my first time in Germany, I figured I should have a German beer.



From the airport, we took a bus, a train, and then a cab to pick up a package which was waiting for me. I had to wait a bit longer than expected (I could hear the cab's meter ticking over from inside the DHL office!), during which time the driver delved into the back of the car, whipped out a cucumber, snapped it in half, started munching on one half, and offered Alli the other half. The text message I had from her suggested she wasn't amused!

After a train ride with some nice Irish people on a shaky train...



...a nice sunset...



...and a metal welcome at the bus stop where we'd embark on the final leg of the journey (complete with poison-laden Transylvanian Vampires)...



...we finally arrived at the Wacken site. w00t!



We mooched around a bit, said hello/goodbye to a few people, scored some food and drink, and then headed off to get to kip under the almost full moon.
