April 14, 2021 (CHAPEL HILL, NC) - Trig’s collaborative product design with Voxelight LLC for the ZEISS UVClean has won Red Dot awards in two categories: Industrial Design and Innovative Product. This marks the first Red Dot awards Trig has received for their work.
The ZEISS UVClean is a simple, yet powerful UV disinfection tool for eyecare professionals. With a push of a button, a cycle of UV-C radiation is initiated, effectively disinfecting up to 6-10 pairs of eyeglasses in only 40 seconds. This product requires no chemicals or liquids and produces zero waste due to its innovative use of 4 germicidal UVC bulbs. The bulbs bathe each eyeglass frame in powerful UV-C light, killing up to 99.5% of common viruses and bacteria on the surface of the eyeglasses.
The ZEISS UVClean is the perfect solution for Eye Care Professionals, who serve numerous customers per day and must clean multiple contaminated eyeglasses per visit by hand. Due to the pandemic, new standards of practices require every single pair of eyeglasses to be set aside for an extended period of time until an employee is available to thoroughly disinfect them by hand. This means a large amount of inventory is temporarily unavailable to other customers and the staff is now spending much more time disinfecting eyeglasses than assisting customers. With the ZEISS UVClean, an Eye Care Professional can simply load the eyeglasses into the chamber, and with a single push of a button, quickly disinfect multiple frames.
Trig and Voxelight LLC worked together with ZEISS to develop the ZEISS UVClean after ZEISS identified the opportunity for an effective and efficient disinfection solution to improve the safety and workflow for Eye Care Professionals. Trig provided design and development services such as concept illustrations, prototype CAD, Design for Manufacture, product rendering, as well as product video animation. Voxelight, being experts on UV light from their Sunscreenr product, provided UV lighting requirements, component sourcing, electronics circuitry, as well as executing the prototype build, assembly and product testing.
“The ZEISS UVClean represents an extraordinary commitment by our client to respond to the changing world with clever technology and good design to solve real customer problems,” said Ty Hagler. “We are thrilled that they have received the prestigious honor of winning two Red Dot awards in recognition of their commitment to excellence.”
